 MNSCIA LogoIn 1991, a small group of dedicated sex crimes investigators from law enforcement agencies throughout Minnesota organized as the Minnesota Sex Crimes Investigators Association (MNSCIA) for the purpose of assisting members in investigation of sex crimes. Today, MN/SCIA members include over 150 investigators from around the region.

2022 Spring Conference held at Vadnais Heights Commons

 

MN/SCIA has established:

  • A network of sex crimes investigators and provides members with a forum to discuss and exchange information related to sex crimes, case management and operational strategies.
  • Quality training/educational opportunities, with MN POST credits, for law enforcement and other personnel involved in sex crimes investigations.
  • A professional resource for members of the Minnesota Legislature for the purpose of drafting new laws concerning criminal sexual conduct.

Sex Crimes Investigator of the Year

Any officer who distinguishes him or herself by superior accomplishments or continuing long-term involvement using leadership. Accomplishments may include, but are not limited to, creativity, problem solving, planning, organizational development, communication and investigative skills. The individual must make a significant contribution to the investigations of sex crimes within their agency or jurisdiction.

MNSCIA is dedicated to making Minnesota a safer place to live. We welcome all law enforcement officers, and those in related criminal justice fields who are primarily assigned to sex crimes investigations.

Members receive regular correspondence with up-to-date information on sexual assault investigations, court decisions, victim issues, research, technological advances, lab protocol, and intelligence information.

Members receive a membership directory, updated annually. Additionally, members are welcome to attend Board of Directors meetings, and to serve on any of the standing committees to share ideas and expertise.

  1. Active Members. Full-time law enforcement officers with power of arrest whose salaries are paid by public funds.
  1. Associate Members. Retired or part-time officers whose salaries were paid by public funds, law enforcement students, persons publicly employed in other areas of law enforcement, public employees who conduct sexual assault assessments and investigations, and any other person with a professional interest in sex crimes investigations. An Associate Member must obtain sponsorship of an Active Member in good standing. Associate Members have all the benefits of active membership except that of holding office and voting.
